Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief (Operations & Training) is responsible for the development and implementation of training activities within the Fire Department. The successful candidate will also assist with the direction of operational response and equipment and apparatus maintenance. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief (Training and Operations) acts as the Fire Chief and Incident Commander for fire and other related responses within the Town of Smithers Fire Service Area. Essential Qualifications Include: • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of firefighting experience. • Completion of NFPA 1001 Level II, NFPA 1002 with Fire Pump, NFPA Fire Officer I, and Fire Instructor Level I. • Ability to pass a criminal records check. • Live within or ability to move within a distance of the Smithers Fire Hall in order to meet or exceed service delivery standards. • Possess a valid Class 3 (preferred) or Class 5 (required) BC driver’s license, with air-brakes endorsement (required). • Possess a valid First Responder Certification with the Emergency Medical Assistance Licensing Board. • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
