As one of two Deputy Fire Chiefs the successful applicant will focus on Emergency Management, operating as the Community Management Coordinator, while assisting in day-to-day operations, and contributing to organizational decision making.

The Role
Responsible for Community Emergency Management Coordinator duties in addition to day-to-day operational management, we are looking for a dedicated Deputy Chief with senior management experience in a unionized fire department. Our Deputy Chiefs are not only crucial managers of the service, but also the visionary leaders who will guide improvements and changes to the service for years to come.
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief will serve a critical leadership role in the service, providing their vision as the service continues to grow and adapt.
The Candidate
We’re looking for a candidate with 10 years of fire department experience and a history of stepping up to new challenges and responsibilities. Experience in, and knowledge of applicable legislation; modern, large-urban firefighting and emergency response; incident management systems; public safety; budgetary processes; staff and public interactions; project management; and computer software will be an asset for any leader taking on the role.
Coupled with work experience, we are seeking a candidate who holds a degree or diploma in Public Administration; is a graduate of the Ontario Fire College; or a has combination of education and work experience in a relevant field to aid them in their work.
Further education in the form of a University Degree or Senior Officer’s Program Certification will assist the successful candidate, as will Community Emergency Management and Incident Management System certifications through Emergency Management Ontario.
