We are currently seeking a Fire Chief who is a highly motivated and energetic individual to join our senior management team.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer the Fire Chief is responsible for the proactive leadership and overall operation of the fire services including administration, financial management, policy development, operations procedures, fire suppression, fire investigation, fire prevention, inspired leadership to voluntary resources and public education, public relations, emergency medical responses, training, community emergency planning and ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code, Municipal by-laws and Provincial and Federal Legislation.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Management: Significant experience (at least five years) progressively responsible senior management positions (ideally as a Chief or Deputy) in a similar complex municipal or business environment.
- People Leadership: Experience and ability to provide exceptional leadership to staff, to be proactive and build enthusiastic, high performing staff teams; knowledge of related labour legislation.
- Business Operations: Proven ability to demonstrate service excellence through effective oversight of all aspects of the fire department including fire communications, suppression, rescue, training, public education and fire prevention.
- Resource Management: Ability to prudently manage resources, business plans, operational and capital budgets in a fiscally accountable fashion.
- Relationship Management: Ability to work with staff at all levels across the organization, including Council, CAO, community and neighbouring municipalities.
- Fire Service Legislation and Policies: Excellent knowledge of fire related legislation including the Fire Code, the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, and related policies, procedures & best practices.
- Communications: Excellent verbal, written, report writing and presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively and address concerns with tact and diplomacy; exceptional interpersonal skills and political acuity.
- Education: Post-secondary education, ideally at the university level or equivalent. Willingness to commit to a program of continuing education as needed.
- Certifications: Ontario Fire Service Standard for Fire Chief is required; Training Officer and Fire Prevention Officer are assets as are other specialty certifications.
- Other Attributes: A valid “DZ” Driver’s License for the Province of Ontario
